Silver Scholars Computer Classes – Silver Scholars teaches computer classes specifically designed for individuals over the age of 50.
The classes are fun, interactive, begin with the basics, and will help you to become a computer wiz. All classes will be held at the Jefferson Hills Community Room (at the library) and are limited to 10 students, so register early at 412-283-0105. Mosaic Stained Glass Garden Stepping Stones – Offered six Tuesdays, November 15 through December 20 from 6 - 8:15 p.m. Tuition is $30; materials/supplies are approximately $50. Wesley Luckey is the instructor.
Chair Caning and Other Woven Seats – Offered six Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 20 through October 6 from 6:15 - 8:15 p.m.; free tuition plus cost of materials. Instructor is Wesley Luckey.
YOGA (Beginners to Intermediate) – Offeredsix Tuesdays, September 20 through October 25 from 6 - 7 p.m. Tuition is $5 per week. Please bring a mat.
Holiday Floral Table Projects – With Jim Carlucci of Della RobbiaFlorist. Create a Thanksgiving floral centerpiece for $40 on Tuesday, November 22 from 6:30 - 8:15 p.m. Create a Christmas floral centerpiece for $45 on Monday, December 19 from 6:30 - 8:15 p.m.
Trim Your Christmas Tree With an Expert – Tuesday, November 29 from 6:30 - 8:15 p.m. for $15. Jim Carlucci from Della Robbia Florist will demonstrate the art of decorating a beautiful holiday tree with the lights, ribbons, and decorations.
Scrabble Club – Meets Tuesdays at noon and 4 p.m.
Beadathon with "The Bead Lady" – Two events: October 11 and December 6 from 6 - 8 p.m. Instructor is Kathy Shomo, author of Anyone Can Bead! Easy Techniques for Creating Jewelry and teaching artist for 15 years. Materials fee is based on project(s) completed (e.g., sterling silver earrings, $7; bracelet, $12).
Sherlock Holmes Reading Scion of Jefferson Hills – First Wednesday of the month beginning on September 7 at 7 p.m.; for adults and teen. Moderator is Tom Drnach. The group will cover not only the literature of Holmes but also the films and movies. A list of materials to be covered is available at the library or the first meeting. Readings for September 7 are The Gloria Scott and The Musgrave Ritual.
Computer Tutor – Every Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Instructor will be Gill Smith. Need some one-on-one help with your PC? Our computer tutor will be happy to help you with e-mail, Word, searching the Web or anything else computer-related with which you need help. Just drop in.
Resume Rescue – First Tuesday of the month from 7 - 8:30 p.m., September 6, October 4, November 8 and December 6. Instructor is Vanessa Bonder. Create a resume or online application that reflects your best work experience and qualities.
Facebook Facts – Mondays, October 10 and 17, from 10 - 11 a.m. Instructor will be Jeff Connelly. Get help from our computer geek squad to set up your Facebook account. Then you’ll be able to “friend request” your children and grandchildren.
Locks of Love – Saturday, December 3 from 1 - 4 p.m. Provides wigs to children who have lost their hair to due illness. The library will sponsor a free haircut by local professionals at the Jefferson Hills community room for those who qualify to donate; minimum ponytail length is 10 inches. Please make appointment at the library.
SAT Preparation Classes – Four Sundays, October 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 1 - 4 p.m. Fee is $175. Pick up permission forms at the library. The SAT exam will be given at Thomas Jefferson High School on November 5.
Story times for children ages 3 and up – Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.,
September 15, 22 and 29; October 6, 13 and 20; November 3, 10 and 17; and December 1, 8 and 15.
