Monongahela Valley Hospital is sponsoring a variety of informative programs during November. Many of the events will be held in the hospital’s Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center (ECC) unless otherwise noted.
Childbirth Preparation Class – Wednesdays, November 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX.
A free, four-week series of prenatal education classes designed to prepare couples for the birthing process. Topics include signs of labor, vaginal and c-section deliveries, role of the labor coach, comfort measures including breathing and relaxation skills, and pain medication options. Couples will rehearse what they learn in class to help relieve anxiety surrounding the birthing experience. Please call 724-258-BABY (2229) to register.
Breast Cancer Support Group – Wednesday, November 2 from 6 – 8 p.m. This support group is free and open to all breast cancer patients and their families. For more information, call 724-258-1455.
Innovations in ENT – Wednesday, November 2, at 6 p.m. Join Howard Goldberg, M.D. at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX as he presents the next topic in MVH’s Innovations in Medicine series. If you have problems affecting your ears, nose, throat, and head and neck, you may benefit from this free educational program. Call the MVH Reservation Hotline at 724-258-1333 to register. Harvest Luncheon – Thursday, November 3 at noon. This luncheon is sponsored by the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc. Stroke Support Group – Thursday, November 3, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. The Stroke Support Group is designed for patients and caregivers to share, learn and grow with people who can personally relate to the challenges and struggles they face on a daily basis dealing with stroke and its aftereffects. RSDS Support Group – Wednesday, November 9, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Support Group is free and open to all persons with RSDS or related illnesses. For more information, call 724-929-9492.
Diabetes Support Group Holiday Dinner – Thursday, November 10, from 5:30 – 8 p.m. This annual holiday dinner is hosted for individuals diagnosed with diabetes, and a support person may attend. Those interested in attending must call the Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at 724-258-1483 to receive an invitation. Reservations are required, and the cost is $7.50 per person.
Innovations in Diseases of the Prostate – Tuesday, November 15, at 6 p.m. Join Jay A. Lutins, M.D., for this free program discussing the different diseases that affect the prostate and the current treatment options available. This program is part of MVH’s Innovations in Medicine series that features physician guest speakers who provide medical information to the community. Managing Your Diabetes – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, November 15 – 17, from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX. This three-day education series focuses on diabetes self-management, and care. Registration is required at least one week prior to the start of classes. Adult First Aid – Thursday, November 17 from 6 – 9 p.m. Adult first aid classes are offered by the hospital in conjunction with the Valley Health and Safety Training Center. The $30 fee is payable to VHSTC and advance registration is required at 724-684-9536.
Light-Up Night – Monday, November 21 at 7 p.m. Join MVH as we kick-off the holiday season with our 27th Annual Light-Up Night in the Hospital’s Central Plaza. Enjoy entertainment, hot chocolate, Christmas carols, and an opportunity to tell Santa and Mrs. Claus what’s on your Christmas list. Homemade baked goods will be sold by The Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc.
Advanced Carbohydrate Counting – Wednesday, November 23 from 9 – 11 a.m. Diabetes self-management class that focuses on carb counting with everything you need to know. How to measure the upward drive each meal has on blood sugar and information on the glycemic index. Completion of the three-day Diabetes Self Management Training is required prior to attending the Carbohydrate Counting class. Breastfeeding Class – Monday, November 28 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX. This free class is designed for mothers who plan to breastfeed to help them feel more comfortable and confident while in the hospital after delivery and when returning home.
