Cora Sue Ducoeur, 70, lost her battle with cancer on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011. She was born in Waynesburg, on Aug. 19, 1941, the daughter of Charles and Mary Adams.
Cora received her RN degree from Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1961. She was very active in her community. She served on Charleroi Borough Council for six years. She served as a member and held various offices in the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, Charleroi Shadetree Commission and the Charleroi Garden Club. She had participated in the annual American Diabetes Step Out for the Cure for the past 15 years and the local Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk for the past eight years. She was the winner of the 2000 Jo DeBolt Volunteer of the Year Award. She was the recipient of the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce Shining Star Award in 2004 and the Distinguished Citizen award in 2010.
Cora and her husband, Tom, owned and operated Orange's Gift Department Store. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas Orange Ducoeur; two daughters, Lois (Don) Ruschak, of Charleroi and Rebecca Bowers, of Charleroi; grandchildren, Coral, Pearl, Noah and Jonah Ruschak, and Jacquelyn and Dalton Bowers; siblings, Karen Adams, of Waynesburg, Kathryn Reeves, of Arizona, Anita (Kenneth) Simms, of Clarksville and Cindy Kerr, of Waynesburg, John Staggers, of Waynesburg, and Kay Adamson, of Waynesburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Linda Adams.
Friends and family were received on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home in Charleroi, and funeral services were held in the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Interment following in Monongahela Cemetery.
