The Mon Valley YMCA Sharks Swim Team members finished the 2011-2012 winter swim season with appearances at a number of championship meets.

The 8 and under novice swim team
|
The 8 and Under Novice team had a successful showing on February 26th in Somerset. They finished in 3rd place out of 19 teams with 27 personal best times.
On March 3rd, the team was again well represented at the B District Championship Meet at IUP. Courtney Cortazzo, Lauren Lusk, and Brian Lusk placed in the top three in their events. Kelsey Cortazzo and Jordan Miller both placed in the top twelve.

The West District Championship Swimmers

Almost a week later, the team was in the water again for the West District Championship Meet held on March 10th and 11th. The Mon Valley YMCA District swimmers placed 8th out of 39 teams. The Cadet Boys (ages 9-10) were awarded a 2nd place plaque in their division, and 17 out of 25 swimmers earned places high enough to advance to the YMCA East-West Championship Meet on March 24-25 at Penn State University.
