By Charlotte Hopkins

Clairton Police Officer Jim Kuzak was among the supporters celebrating Mother’s Day at Pittsburgh's “Race for the Cure” marathon.

Officer Kuzak was injured on duty in April 2011 when he answered a call for a home invasion and was shot by the intruders. Though he was paralyzed from his wounds, he has not let that slow him down!

Also among the marathon runners were Kathlenia and Alan Werner from West Elizabeth. They joined the cause in honor of their grandmother, Linda Harmon, who died from breast cancer. Pittsburgh is having a marathon on Father’s Day to raise awareness for prostate cancer. The Werners will be among those supporters as well to honor their late grandfather, Tom Harmon, who lost his battle against esophageal cancer.
