The May meeting of the Catholic Women’s College Club was held at the Cedar Brook Restaurant in Rostraver. President Susan Gessner welcomed members and introduced guests Sharon Bellamy and Annette Page.
President Gessner recognized the May committee: Lia Petaccia, Debbie Kozar, Pauline Law, Ginny Monaghan, Diane Vernet and Christine Zyboyovsky. Tables were decorated with vases of fresh flowers and picture frames at everyone’s place setting. Gessner offered the invocation and dinner was served.
The committee shared a loving tribute to mothers. Members brought photographs of their mothers for a display board. Monaghan read a poem titled “Mothers are Special.” Vernet sang “Mother at Your Feet is Kneeling.” Gessner placed a crown of flowers on a statue of the Blessed Mother while Zyboyovsky read “Mary Queen of Heaven.” Kozar then lead the women in a prayer service and Vernet and all the women sang “Gentle Woman.” Petaccia spoke about Mary, the Mother of Jesus, who was the Holy Woman of the Bible for this month.
After dinner, Dorothy Jozwiak conducted the installation ceremony for the newly elected officers. They are: Treasurer, Sally Keeney; Secretary, Jo Anna Stroh; Vice President, Camilla Ferrara; and President, Susan Gessner. Four new members were also inducted into the club. They are Sharon Bellamy, Julie Hawk, Kathy Kelemen, and Peggy Vogt.
Committee reports were given and thank-you notes were read. Handicapped Adults Chairwoman Mary Ann Gallo with her committee Susanna Swade and Olga Plavko offered a memorial service to Patricia Bova, a resident of an adult care facility,who recently passed away. Noreen Fazzini then lead the women in prayer. Georgetta Wiles thanked the telephone committee and asked the members to continue collecting soda can tabs and cancelled postage stamps.
Dorothy Jozwiak was recognized for receiving a prestigious Papal award for outstanding service to the church and the community.
Donna Putelak and Lisa Foglia presented gifts of gratitude to the out-going officers. President Gessner gave gifts to 9 ladies for perfect attendance, The gift of the month, a beautiful vase, was won by Margie Pankiewicz.The fresh floral arrangements were also given away as gifts for May.
Pressident Gessner wished everyone a safe and happy summer and informed the members that the initial meeting ot the next club year will be held in August.
