‘Velvet in the Gardens of Fall’ is the theme for a bus tour sponsored by the California Area Historical Society on Tuesday, September 25. The bus travels to Utica, Newark & Heath, Ohio.
First stop is the Velvet Ice Cream facility and Ye Olde Mill. After learning about ice cream production, lunch is served in the café on the premises with Velvet’s creamy hot fudge sundae for dessert.
The tour continues with a step-on guide and naturalist who highlights outstanding plantings in the 1,800 acres at the Dawes Arboretum. A Japanese garden is also featured. The day ends with dinner served at the Davis Shai House, a Victorian home in the Gothic revival architectural style. Participants can view the fall gardens outside or enjoy furnishings and décor in the interior of the home.
The bus boards at Center in the Woods, Brownsville; Kings Family Restaurant, Bentleyville; and Park’n Ride, Washington. The cost per person is $102. Pre-paid reservations can be made through Gary Gregg by phone at 724-938-2529 or the California Area Historical Society at 724-938-3250.
