Rostraver Commissioners Meeting – November 6, 2013
By Christina Walko
At the Rostraver Commissioner’s Meeting on November 6, 2013, two new resolutions were adopted after being read by Solicitor Al Gaudio.
The first, introduced by Patrick Egros, was a resolution establishing garbage fees for residential customers for the 2014 year. The second, introduced by Donald Bottman, declared Chevron Appalachia in default of their Heavy Hauling agreement. The Township will follow up on this issue with legal action.
The Commissioners approved the installation of a mobile home sales facility off state route 51 by Port Royal Sales. They also approved several simple subdivisions of land for the Mayhew Plan of Lots and also for the Bible Baptist Church of Rostraver. They passed a motion to release Laurel Mountain Midsteam’s road bond for the amount of $9,000.
In new business, a second budget meeting was scheduled for November 13 and Secretary Pam Beard was authorized to begin advertising for “Road Supplies” for the 2014 year. A new Lanier Copier is being purchased for the police department at a cost of $2,879 plus annual maintenance. Road crew member Harold Brown’s resignation was accepted and the township moved to advertise for a new full-time road crew member.
Citizen complaints were again heard about the smell still reported to be emanating from the Tervita Landfill. The Rostraver Board contends that it is doing all it can in opposing the renewal of the landfill’s permit until it complies with D.E.P. regulations and gets the nuisance smell under control. Tervita representatives have said they are doing all they can and were not available for further comment.
The Greater Rostraver Chamber’s annual Rostraver Township Christmas celebration was planned and approved to be held on Sunday, November 24, from 6 – 8 at the Municipal Complex. Rostraver hopes for a terrific turnout for the event, which was a great success last year.
Though there will be slight changes in the Boards make-up for 2014, the township retains its democratic majority. Current Chairman/President Andy Temoshenka did not seek re-election. He has served from 2010 – 2014, as President, has been Assistant Chairman of Budget and Finance and was also the previous chair of Public Safety, Health and Welfare Dept. He has served Rostraver Township for 16 years. “I thank everyone for the privilege to serve my community. It has been an honor,” he stated.
Pat Egros (D) and Ray Iacoboni (D) defeated challengers Devin DeRienzo (R) and Jared Naylor (R).
The 2014 Board will consist of Patrick Egros, Ray Iacoboni, Gary Beck, Brian Sokol and Don Bottman.
Also, a Recreation Meeting is set for Tuesday, December 10 at the Municipal Building.
