Bear Awake and in Donora

At the February 9, 2012 Donora Council meeting, Borough Administrator Dennis Fisher alerted residents that a black bear has been spotted in the 1100 block of Marelda Ave. on a few occasions recently. The bear has damaged trash cans while attempting to forage for food.

New Peters Council Chairman Robert Lewis Says Gas Drilling Will Continue as Top Township Concern

At a special reorganization meeting on January 3, longtime council member Robert Lewis of Fawn Valley Drive was selected as the new Council Chairman. Lewis replaces Robert Atkison as chairman, who the 7-member council selects yearly. Both Lewis and Atkison were re-elected as unopposed candidates in the November election and will serve 4-year terms. Both are At Large council members, who serve the township as a whole, and the other At Large member, Gary Steigel, Jr., who is also the newest council member, was selected to be the new Vice Chairman.

Peter Township Reorganizes 2012 Leadership on Council and in its Boards

SRPD Has Busy Month Policing Union Township
Lack of Prior Local Patrol Could be at Fault

The Southwest Regional Police Department (SRPD) reported at the January 23 Union Township Board meeting that they’d made nine drug arrests in their first three weeks of patrolling in UT.

Nottingham Board of Supervisors Supports Peters Creek Sanitary Authority Improvements

Nottingham Township has committed itself to plans by the Peters Creek Sanitary Authority (PCSA) to improve their facilities. By unanimous approval at their January 16 meeting, the board approved a resolution to adopt the Act 537 Plan Supplement that provides for an official Sewage Facilities Plan to address sewage services, water contamination and environmental health hazards.

West Elizabeth Town Council Swears in Re-Elected Members

At the January West Elizabeth Town Council meeting, the new council members were sworn in by Magistrate Beth Scagline Mills.
  Those included were Vice President Frank Magill, Steve Hallam, Darryl Celestino and Susan Pershing. Each member will serve two years on the town council.
