The following information is for the Venetia Community Center located at 800 Venetia Rd., Venetia, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging.
July 12 we will meet at Peterswood Park for a picnic instead of meeting at our Senior Center. Our meeting time will be the same, with blood pressure screenings offered as usual. Caring Mission and Manor Care will provide everything, including the entertainment, so be prepared to have a good time. Reservations must be made by June 28 so they can prepare; please call 724-941-6956. New people are always welcome. See you at the park.

Seniors for Safe Driving presents a highway safety education program for Seniors 55 years of age and older on August 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Paramount Senior Living in Bethel Park. The highway safety programs are certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The successful completion of the program makes seniors eligible for a 5% discount on their automobile insurance premiums, across the board, for a period of three years. The discount is mandated by Pennsylvania state law.

For those who have completed the AARP Driver Safety Course within the past three years, a refresher course will be offered at the Peters Township Public Library on Tuesday, July 24 from 12 until 4 p.m. This course will offer the latest information on accident prevention, new car innovations, rules of the road and how to prevent injuries to you and your passengers. Verification of previous course completion is required; please bring your course completion certificate or a copy of an auto insurance bill that lists the discount applied from previous course completion.

The West Newton Senior Center has two wonderful bus trips planned.
The first one is Ohio Amish Bus trip, September 29 for $79. Price includes bus, all tips, tour, snack and lunch. Sharon Grove of Ridgeview Farms will be our tour guide for Millers' House with snacks to learn about Amish culture, the Buckeye Chocolate Factory, Middlefield cheese, the co-op, lunch in an Amish home, Country Art's jewelry, and Fig Tree Bulk Food Store. Upon dropping off our guide, we may have time to also shop at her brand new Ridgeview Farms store.

The Valley Seniors Club met on Tuesday, May 22 in the Riverside Place meeting room and opened with the Pledge to the Flag led by Marlene Owens. She thanked Joan McCluskey and Madeline Pierce. who did a fabulous job chairing the April meeting. It was reported that member Doris Smith has moved out of the area to Chicago. Fred Owens conducted the attendance signup sheet.

June is behind us, and summer is really here. Our covered-dish dinner on June 26 was just great thanks to all our good cooks and chairperson Rosemarie Zrimsek. As a special treat, we were treated to a number of songs by 18-year-old Carmen Lopresti.
